Key Scriptures
Verse 4—“Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.” How does God “choose” people? Believers who confess Jesus as lord and believe that God raised him from the dead are saved (Romans10:9,10). Since God has foreknowledge of all things, He can “call” people to salvation, knowing they will accept it. Then they are justified and glorified in Christ. Romans 8:29,30: “For whom he did foreknow [foreknowledge that they would believe], he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son….Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” Being saved in Christ, we are “satisfied” with God’s goodness, and as members of the body of Christ, we are God’s dwelling (temple) by His spirit within us (Ephesians 2:21,22).
Verse 8—“the outgoings of the morning and evening.” The word translated “outgoings” often refers to fountains, waterways, or rain. Each morning and evening, the Father blesses us with His abundant love and “showers” His blessings upon us.
Verse 13—“The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with corn.” This is a beautiful illustration of God clothing the land with food and grain. God promises to supply all of our need (Philippians 4:19) and to cause His grace to abound unto us (II Corinthians 9:8).
