Moonset in PV

We’ve been staying with Sherry’s Dad, her sister, and our nephew for nearly two weeks. It was like being “home” again, because we had lived here for five years previously. Palos Verdes, California, is one of my favorite places in the world: pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, expansive ocean views, and cool ocean breezes. The best thing though, is being with people you love. We got to spend some quality time with family, and also visit old friends. Life is good.

This morning I woke up at 4:15 and walked outside to a brilliant full moon. It made a glowing pathway across the ocean, so I walked to the beach and watched the waves come in. The moon reflected the glory of the sun, and waves reflected the glory of the moon. It was beautiful.

Genesis 1:16:
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

The waves reminded me of God’s constant, faithful care—day after day after day. His waves of love and kindness never fail. The moon reminded me that we reflect the Father’s glory through “Christ in” us. Jesus Christ is “the Sun of righteousness” to “arise with healing in his wings [rays]” from Malachi 4:2. Now we walk by God’s in-dwelling spirit and show forth the glory of that Christ within us.

II Corinthians 3:18:
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The same God who made the sun and moon has commanded spiritual light to shine out of the darkness. It is in the face, the full understanding, of what our Lord Jesus has done for us that gives us salvation. God raised him from the dead and made him Lord over all [Romans 10:9,10]. We confess that Jesus is Lord, and that glorifies God, our heavenly Father [Philippians 2:9-11]. Even though we may live in fragile, earthly bodies—the true power in our lives comes from God through Christ.

II Corinthians 4:6,7:
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We have only one God, our Father. We have only one Lord, Jesus Christ. That is where all good things come from in our lives.

I Corinthians 8:6:
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

As I watched the moon set in the west into the Pacific Ocean, I thought of the miraculous way that God designed life in space and on our humble planet. All things work together for good by way of gravity and other divine laws that He set up. Amazingly, the moon and sun appear to be the same size from Earth. They both set beautifully in the west after arcing across the sky. So many things are too wonderful to understand. Yet, God is amazing, powerful, and watches over all with loving care. Oh, the great wisdom of our Creator, and the great love of our Father in sending His only Son for us. God bless you.

Romans 11:33,36:
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Thank you, Gene. The photo is beautiful and I loved the post. I live in the Pacific Northwest. Often the moon and stars are not visible; but when they are, it is such a treat. To think of the many ways the creation works in sync is awesome. Glory to God!
