Sherry and I are thankful for the people in more than sixty countries who read our blog. This poem is about the nation where we live–America.
One nation under God,
One land we can applaud,
Farmers and workers and teachers and cleaners,
All of us givers—and none of us “leaners.”
Founded by people who wanted the freedom
To believe words they knew were the truth and to read ‘em
To children or neighbors and live with one heart,
A nation together from love’s simple start.
Many have paid for America’s strength,
With their lives and believing to give it a length
Of decades and centuries to build and renew,
And now it’s our turn to live bold and live true.
These United States, from Florida’s keys,
To Washington’s mountains, or tall, giant trees,
To Maine’s bright red lobsters and Nevada’s gold sun,
‘Tis a nation of beauty, united as one.
Wherever you live and whatever your state,
United together, we stand truly great.
We are thankful for all of the riches we’re given
And give back to America by our faithful livin’.
