As God’s Messiah, Jesus Christ was longed for since the time of Adam. He is the subject of God’s Word, even though he is not specifically named in every book of the Bible. Our savior knew that the scriptures spoke of him, and that he could declare, make known the Father (John 1:18).
John 5:39:
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Luke 24:27:
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:44:
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
The Apostle Paul knew that Jesus Christ was promised in the holy scriptures.
Romans 1:1-3:
…the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord….

In Genesis the promised seed would crush the serpent’s head,
In Exodus the Passover lamb brought healing in his stead.
Leviticus the high priest comes to wash away all sin,
And Numbers as the star to rise from Jacob now begins.
In Deuteronomy two laws of love are clearly laid,
In Joshua the captain of the lord of hosts, our aid.
Judges shows a covenant with angel “Wonderful,”
In Ruth the kinsman redeemer, with payment now in full.
In Samuel he’s the root of David, offspring of God’s man,
And Kings records the greater than the Temple in God’s plan.
Chronicles, the king’s son, stands forth so brave and tall,
And Ezra and Nehemiah shows ’tis he rebuilds of the wall.
In Esther he’s the savior of God’s people, clearly sent,
In Job, the daysman, healing all, God’s love he’d not repent.
And Psalms replays him as the song, God’s Word deep in his heart,
In Proverbs he’s true wisdom, for youth a proper start.
Ecclesiastes, he’s the one among a thousand wide,
And Solomon’s Song reveals him as the bridegroom for his bride.
Isaiah shows him as the branch that grows from Jacob’s tree,
And Jeremiah, he’s the righteousness of you and me.
Lamentations, he’s the unbelievers’ judgment come,
Those in the past and future too, and now reject God’s Son.
Ezekiel, the shepherd true , who watches o’er the flock,
In Daniel he’s the cornerstone, the sure, the firm, sound rock.
Hosea he’s the latter rain, abundance then to bring,
In Joel, God’s dwelling in Zion, for safety to him cling.
In Amos he’s the raiser of David’s tabernacle once again,
In Obadiah, the deliverer on Mount Zion from all sin.
In Jonah, our salvation, raised from a watery grave,
In Micah he’s the lord of kings in triumph come to save.
In Nahum, he’s our stronghold when we’re faced with troubl’ous times,
In Habakkuk, our joy and confidence within us shines.
Zephaniah, he’s our mighty lord coming that day,
In Haggai, in every nation, those who desire to know the way.
In Zechariah, our servant—the branch fulfills his quest,
And Malachi seals up the book, the sun of righteousness.
In Matthew, he’s Jehovah’s king, born true in Bethlehem,
In Mark Jehovah’s servant comes, his life for every man.
In Luke Jehovah’s man does whatever God commands,
In John, Jehovah’s Son proclaims God’s Word and boldly stands.
In Acts he is the gift of holy spirit, freely-given,
In Romans he has justified us, now we are forgiven.
Corinthians, we’re sanctified in him and set apart,
Galatians, he’s our righteousness, believing from the heart.
Ephesians, in the heavenlies, he’s made us now to stand.
Philippians, we do all things with Christ’s strength in our hands.
Colossians, we’re complete in him, the head of every power,
Thessalonians, soon glorified, we look unto that hour.
In Timothy, the faithful man, who stands in faith and love,
In Titus, fellow laborer, with wisdom from above.
Philemon, a believer’s love , so tender and so dear,
In Hebrews, the high priest for sin, brings all to God’s side near.
In James he is the royal law of love we can now keep,
And Peter he’s the pastor who protects and guides the sheep.
In John he is our advocate, God’s Son who is our hope,
In Jude he’s the beloved one, always within our scope.
And Revelation ends the book, where he’s the king of kings
And lord of lords, this Jesus Christ, beneath his feet all things.
