Life Lesson #1

Sun Walk

Life has been full of challenging pressures, learning adventures, and great times with my heavenly Father. I love how the challenges and difficulties can bring me one of two ways. Either I end up doing things my way, or I get into the Word and do it God’s way. When I make God’s Word my life source, life becomes not only a lot more exciting, but drastically better. Instead of reading around the Word, I’ve been enjoying opening the pages of the Bible and reading directly from God’s heart. When the spiritual pressure is on, I crank up the intensity of God’s Word in my life as high as I can and let God go to work.

The first lesson I’ve learned I know will be a guiding force for the rest of my life—humility to the Word and will of God. I face an opponent far more skilled than I am, and it quickly becomes evident that I cannot fight alone and win. I need to be strong in the LORD and the power of HIS might, because after all, I’m dealing with spiritual matters in the spiritual realm.

Now there are times in this spiritual arena where I will catch myself saying, “If I could only believe God bigger,” or “I’ve got this. I know what to do because I’ve done this before.” With the focus on myself, I never make it, but when I see God’s power and love from His Word, I recognize something beautiful.

Humility to God is the first great step towards His glory and power. Peter says it is what I am to be clothed with. It’s the spiritual garment I am to wear morning and night.

I Peter 5:5:
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Even Michael the archangel in his altercation with Satan declared, “The LORD rebuke thee!”

Jude 1:9:
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

It is noteworthy that there is no “railing accusation,” no jesting, no words of insult or mockery, and no condemning judgment upon Satan from the angel Michael. He didn’t attempt to supersede his own ability by seeking personal vengeance or rebuking the evil one by the name and power of Michael.

The name Michael means, “Who is like God?” and Isaiah 40:18 reads, “To whom then will ye liken God? Or what likeness will ye compare unto Him?” THAT is humility. He blew down the doors of his enemy with the power of his Creator, the Almighty!

God Almighty always has the final say, for He cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). Hath He said and shall He not do it? Hath He spoken and shall He not make it good? HE SHALL! The strength of the great angelic warrior Michael is found in his humility to rightfully allow God to fight for him.

Any real power that I have will come from the true God. The evil one is overcome by the goodness and truth of God’s Word. Truth always prevails, and I can always hold on to the truth of God’s Word by staying humble to its Author. It is written! It takes humility towards God to be anything in life.

This article is a great reminder to not try to “take matters into our own hands” when faced with challenging situations or people. The Lord our God fights for us! Thanks Elijah!
