Our Spiritual Heritage

What a bountiful blessing along with an equally enormous responsibility it is to have children. Yet even those of us who have none can (and need to!) help and support parents with this most important obligation: to teach their children about our heavenly Father.

As aunts, uncles, school teachers, co-workers, neighbors, and friends, we all have doors that God opens to share His love and instruction with the young ones among us.

In these two Psalms, I found a few scriptures along these lines.

Psalms 71:17-19:
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto
this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.

Psalms 145:4-7:
One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.
I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.
And
men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.
They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

And these inspired me to write this poem. I hope it will encourage you older ones to bless and encourage the younger with stories of God’s goodness and glory that you’ve seen in your life.

Our Spiritual Heritage

God’s mighty Word has stood the test of centuries,
And down through time, God’s shown His mighty works
His heart made known to every generation
By His saints, His glory has been shown.

Sing of His righteousness, speak of His glory;
Talk of His power, declare His mighty works,
That the next generation might set their hope in God.

Now it’s our time to teach our children;
Tell of His great goodness, His mercy, grace and love
Until we’ve shown His strength unto this generation
And His power to everyone that is to come.

And so we’ll sing of His righteousness, speak of His glory;
Talk of His power, declare His mighty works,
That the next generation might set their hope in God.
