Background
Psalm 105 is the sixteenth in the Numbers Book of the Psalms, which goes to Psalm 106. God’s rest is a major theme of these 17 Psalms, and in this specific Psalm, we see God’s promise to send the Messiah throughout Old Testament events.
Structure
(Verses 1-5) Praise the Lord for His wonders and judgments
(Verses 6-15) His covenant to send the Messiah (with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob)
(Verses 16-24) Messiah’s ancestors saved (when Joseph, a servant, brought Jacob into Egypt)
(Verses 25-41) Messiah’s ancestors saved (when Moses, His servant, brought them out of Egypt)
(Verses 42,43) His promise to send the Messiah (with Abraham)
(Verses 44,45) Praise the Lord for His statutes and laws
Key Scriptures
Verse 4—”Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.” God is Spirit (John 4:24) and literally has no face of flesh. But Jesus Christ had a face, and he showed the Father’s love and heart to all. John 14:9: “Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”
Verse 15—”Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” God protects and defends His anointed. That is most notably true of Jesus of Nazareth, who was anointed “with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:38).
Verse 37—”He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.” This is a great example of the healing available from God. After eating the Passover lamb, there was not one sick or feeble person among the estimated 2.5 million who left Egypt. That is similar to the many gospel records where Jesus Christ healed every disease. He is our Passover today (I Corinthians 5:7) and brings healing to all who believe on him (see notes on Psalm 103 for more details on healing through Jesus Christ).
