Spiritual Truth is Greater than Physical Laws

It’s not polite to say “Shut up,” but sometimes it is necessary when dealing with your mind. After being programmed and sensitized to worldly thinking, God’s Word offers a refreshing alternative—the truth.

I know laws of Physics and science that tell me I cannot walk on water: the pull of gravity is simply too much for the surface tension of H2O to support my weight. God invented life and originally created all that is around us, which now includes my body and water. So, He’s smarter than you are or I am, and we should think and act accordingly when necessary. Jesus did.

Matthew 14:25:
And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

This was no magic trick or exaggeration by the gospel writer. It really happened. God told Jesus to walk on water, and despite Jesus’ more than thirty years of experience to the contrary, he believed and obeyed. Then someone else believed spiritual truth more than his past experience.

Matthew 14:29:
And he [Jesus] said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

Sherry and I lived on Guam for seven years and in California for nearly as many. I’ve been in the ocean and haven’t walked on it yet. Even when swimming in the Sea of Galilee, I didn’t do what Jesus did. Didn’t need to. I’m sure if my heavenly Father told me to, I’d simply get up and walk like my Lord and Savior did.

While on Guam, we did see a few typhoons make U-turns when believers prayed and trusted God. One time, this occurred despite the physical laws: winds blowing where ocean water is warm; moisture rising and colder air moving in below; pressure, causing the winds to move quickly and rotate around the eye, heading in our direction. All the scientists proclaimed it would hit us.

But God’s spiritual truth was bigger, and He personally told me it would be OK. It was. I even posted scriptures in the newsroom where I worked that helped me believe this. One was Mark 4:39: “And he [Jesus] arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”

Am I so special? Not compared to any other born-again believer. God fills us with His spiritual love and power by giving us His spirit when we confess that Jesus is our Lord and believe God raised him from the dead (Romans 10:9). It’s that simple.

So, what if I would accidentally get bit by a poisonous snake? Paul had that happen to him.

Acts 28:5:
And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm.

Despite the skepticism and unbelief of many around him, Paul shook that deadly beast into the fire and was fine. He knew what Jesus had promised.

Mark 16:18:
[If] they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

You might agree with personally believing for God to protect us from the adversary’s evil forces around us. But what about laying hands on others who are sick? Does Jesus’ promise of recovery seem a little far-fetched?

Isaiah 53:5:
But he [the promised Messiah, the suffering Savior, Jesus Christ] was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

But my body tells my mind that I’m very sick, and my mind goes along with it. This scripture says that we are healed. That’s spiritual truth, and this “trumps” any physical laws—including my high white blood cell count or an extreme irritation in my stomach lining.

As a young believer and a nurse technician, I helped patients trust God’s promises despite the dire “possibilities” that doctors presented to them. Some believed and were healed. I reminded them that what God told Isaiah about what Jesus Christ would do—is already done for us today.

I Peter 2:24:
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Now really, are your problems bigger than God is willing to help you with? No.

Romans 8:32:
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

There was a woman with a blood disease for twelve years who “had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse” (Mark 5:25,26). She believed the spiritual truth of healing through Christ and God healed her. Why not you?

Maybe this sounds too simple. Let’s go to the Bible and see what’s on God’s menu for blessings. Then let’s ask for what our Father says we can have, instead of being enslaved by what the world and our limited mental experience tells us. We will receive when we trust and obey. A little humility will lift us up in big ways.

James 4:2,3,10:
…ye have not, because ye ask not.
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Thanks Gene! The world/Adversary works hard to wear us down. So refreshing to hold fast to what God’s Word says! ♥️

Tuning out the world and staying focused on these awesome records in the Word. What a remedy! Thanks so much Gene.

Amen my dear friends. Thank you for sharing your heart and biblical truth!
If only God’s children put more faith in Jesus than the skills of doctors. We pray God guides the hands of doctors, but only by His power and grace are we healed!

Love, love, love this teaching. I didn’t think it sounded too simple. It communicated to me for sure.

As the path of life went for me, I’ve spent so many years without regular fellowship of other sisters and brothers in Christ and even more rare has been my exposure to interpretation of tongues and prophecy.
God is so incredibly good to give us simple words to live and base our lives on. Prior to not living near believers, I heard more times than I could tell you someone say during manifestations, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” I admit I’m an imperfect human being who happens to be born again of God’s spirit and there were times I was tempted to think, “well my goodness, doesn’t God have anything more exciting to say that I can live by now?” How little I knew then that those simple truths that I’d heard so many time would be what I based my life on while walking through the wilderness of life feeling like the only believer around. It was me and God.
Going solo during the LEAD exercise while in the Corps was a cake walk compared to what I would live through later. All in all it was definitely the simple truths I’d remember ALL the time….I’d tell myself, God said he’d never leave me nor forsake me. I’d “remind” God (lol, like he needed to be reminded) you said, you’d never leave me nor forsake me. I’d tell God I’m doing my best and you said you’d do the rest so I believe it. It was the simple truths that had saved me in this life. When I was sick and had no one to call to pray for me or my kids, it was believing those same simple truths that got me through. God showed that truly he says what he means and means what he says. He will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. Simple is good, in fact is really good when you don’t have anything else. And it works!! : ) God’s word is the foundation and it’s as simple as we need it to be. That’s exciting!!!
Thank you Gene!!! Love you and Sherry so much!
