Superbowl Sunday is a big event in the United States. Although this is not what these scriptures are really talking about, here a few Bible verses that might be humorously used about football.

When a team has a good defense against the quarterback – Luke 16:26

“neither can they pass to us…”

When a player doesn’t score any points while in the game, it’s a bad thing – Ecclesiastes 5:16

“And this is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go…”

A strong blitz by the defensive line – Acts 19:29

“they rushed with one accord…”

Encouragement in the locker room before heading out onto the field – Jeremiah 46:4

“…stand forth with your helmets.”

A very bad defense – Isaiah 33:23

“…thy tacklings are loosed.”

A strong backfield – Joel 2:7

“They shall run like mighty men…”

An overweight punter – Deuteronomy 32:15

“Jeshuran waxed fat and kicked…”

Putting a runner up against a tough defense – Isaiah 50:6

‘I gave my back to the smiters…”

No defense can stand against God’s team as they move downfield – Jeremiah 46:15

“Why are the valiant men swept away? They stood not, because the Lord did drive…”

Linemen working together in the first part of the game – Nehemiah 4:6

“…and all the wall was joined together unto the half…”

Why we should watch the Superbowl and have refreshments – Ruth 2:9

“Let thine eyes be on the field… and when thou art athirst go to the vessels and drink…”
