There once was a cowgirl, who lived life by this world,
She needed to know her good Lord,
She cried out for freedom—grace and mercy,
She’d need ‘em—to stand with His love in accord.
So God sent a neighbor, who told of the savior,
God’s Son Jesus Christ and his power,
Now she lives each minute, with joy for what’s in it,
The Father fills each day and hour.
Oh soul who’s forsaken, don’t fret but awaken,
To God’s loving kindness and might,
He’ll bring you true freedom with peace that won’t weaken,
He’ll turn all your darkness to light!
When others see Gertie, not flighty or flirty,
They wonder how she made the change,
They scratch their heads wonderin’—delight at the fun in—
Knowin’ she’s “home on the range.”
She’s wise and discernin’, she tells them her learnin’
Came from God’s Word so matchless and true,
Just open the scriptures, she tells ‘em her lips sure,
That He’ll back up each Word they do.
Oh soul who’s forsaken, don’t fret but awaken,
to God’s loving kindness and might,
He’ll bring you true freedom with peace that won’t weaken,
he’ll turn all your darkness to light!
When William met this lass, he couldn’t let her pass, but spoke up with courage and said,
“I’ve known lots of women—they got my heart swimmin’—and left a big pain in my head.
But you’ve something different, can you tell me what is it, that makes your smile light up my life?
I’m pretty dang certain, there’s no need for flirtin’, dear Gertie, won’t you be my wife?”
She smiled back sweetly, thanking God for the words she, had her from her Billy, her love,
Without one word spoken, she gave him a token that they would be blessed from above.
Her kiss was so tender, soft and full of such splendor, that Bill felt things blessed and anew,
Our cowgirl’s not ramblin’, she’s raisin’ a family, God centered in all that they do.
Oh soul who’s forsaken, don’t fret but awaken,
to God’s loving kindness and might,
He’ll bring you true freedom with peace that won’t weaken,
He’ll turn all your darkness to light!
