Whenever my brothers and sisters needed to settle an argument, we would say “Dad said so,” or “Mom said so.” Their authority was good enough to see things happen. Perhaps you’ve seen the same at work. If your supervisor gave permission, then you could freely go where you needed to and get the job done. How about your personal checks? Are they any good without the authority of your signature? The name is the key.
Colossians 3:17:
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
That is a great way to live! Saying everything and doing everything in the name of our Lord Jesus gives us the proper authority. He is lord, because God made him so.
Philippians 2:9-11:
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The name of Jesus has the full authority of God our Father behind it. Jesus is God’s savior for all mankind. When we do all things in his name, God will back up that authority.
How to Use Jesus’ Name
Here are a few places where we are told that we can use the authority of our savior’s name.
I Corinthians 1:2:
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.
Jesus Christ is our lord as members of his body. All Christian believers are sanctified, set apart in Christ. So we call daily for help in his name.
I Corinthians 1:10:
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Not only are we united spiritually when we are born again, we can also be harmoniously joined together as we walk with the authority that Jesus Christ has given us.
I Corinthians 6:11:
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Sometimes our past tries to creep up and stop us from living the present glorious walk available in Christ. So we remember that we have been washed and set apart and justified (made righteous) in the name of our Lord Jesus. That is how we received God’s gift of holy spirit (Romans 10:9,10).
Ephesians 5:20:
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we give thanks always for every good thing from God our Father, we can do it in the name of Jesus Christ. Remember, we only have one God, and we only have one lord.
I Corinthians 8:6:
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of [ek, out of] whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by [dia, by means of] whom are all things, and we by [dia, by means of] him.
How to Live that Way
Our prayer for each other is that we can walk a balanced life that fulfills all of what God has in store for us each day (Ephesians 2:10). Then we will glorify the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in word and deed.
II Thessalonians 1:11,12:
Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
As we live with the authority and power of our Lord Jesus’ name, we will be pleasing and acceptable to his Father and our Father. We will joyfully live the words of the Psalmist.
Psalms 19:14:
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Love this! Thanks Gene!
