This Is a Day to Remember (written for Memorial Day)

Memorial Day recognizes those who gave their lives in service to America. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Here is poem to commemorate it.

This is a day to remember,
As we live across the land,
That golden grain and farm-fed plains
Are blessed by God’s great hand.

This is a day to remember,
Those who gave their lives to serve,
To keep us free, from tyranny,
Our freedoms to know and preserve.

This is a day to remember,
As we enjoy the love in our hearts,
That, neighbors and friends, it all depends
On God’s Word, the truth it imparts.

This is a day I remember,
Though lost in dark and woe,
That a stranger came—God called my name—
And showed me the way to go.

This is a day we’ll remember,
For we’ll serve our Lord Jesus Christ
And give it our all, live God’s Word as we call
Out others from darkness to light.
