We Have the Best Father Ever

11

I have wonderful and lasting memories of childhood, and of fatherhood. Growing up with eight children in our family, I often saw how my Dad took care of us.

When I asked him if he loved me more than my three other brothers or four sisters, his response was always the same: “Eugene, I love you all just the same.” God built that kind of love and natural affection into parents for their children.

I also remember when our son was only a day old, seeing him in his little basket, seeming to me so tiny and helpless. I had concerns that he would roll over and not be able to breathe. As I watched him move and learn about the new world he was a part of, I realized that God had made him to be just fine, and I had great peace. God designed every good thing about being a father because He is all good.

Ephesians 3:14,15:
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Of whom the whole family
[those born from a common father] in heaven and earth is named.

The word for “family” in Ephesians 3:15 comes from the Greek word meaning “father.” The Creator of the universe is Spirit (John 4:24), and He is the Father of Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. Jesus Christ made known the Father.

John 1:18:
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Jesus Christ showed forth many qualities of his loving heavenly Father. The Father is good unto all.

Matthew 5:45:
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

The Father is perfect, complete in His goodness and kindness to us.

Matthew 5:48:
Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Jesus showed that prayer is not beseeching some distant Lord, but talking intimately to a heavenly Father.

Matthew 6:9:
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

The Father takes care of His creation, including us.

Matthew 6:26:
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

The Father is merciful.

Luke 6:36:
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

At times earthly fathers can make mistakes. But our heavenly Father will never give us something bad. The Father gives good things to those who ask, especially when it comes to His gift of holy spirit.

Matthew 7:11:
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Luke 11:11-13:
If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?
Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

In Eastern Biblical culture, flat bread could resemble the flat stone on which it was made. There were certain fish which looked like serpents. And there was a kind of white scorpion with a yellow underbelly that could roll up to look like an egg. A very irresponsible and careless father could give one of these hurtful things to his child. But God is all loving and wise. He supplies our every need by His grace.

Jesus Christ had the most intimate relationship with God of any man. When talking to his Father, he used the word “Abba,” similar to our English word “Daddy.” He went to his Daddy during his greatest time of need.

Mark 14:36:
And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

By confessing Jesus as lord and believing God raised him from the dead, we are born again of God’s spirit. We have an intimate relationship with our “Daddy.”

Romans 8:15:
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption [sonship], whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Galatians 4:6:
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

By God’s abundant mercy, we are born again of His incorruptible seed by the Word of God we believe (Romans 10:9,10). God designed human seed so that genetically we carry the characteristics of our earthly father. With God’s spiritual seed in us, we are sons of God!

I Peter 1:3,23:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

I John 3:1:
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.

Today is the day to enjoy sweet fellowship with your “Daddy” Who has made us His children by the works of Jesus Christ. Every day is “Father’s day” because we have the best Father ever!

So tender and enveloping. It’s an unprecedented relationship I have with my heavenly Daddy. Nothing comes between us! Thanks for your beautiful heart to share this.

What a joy! Wonderfully written and shared. Reminds me of the old song “Daddy’s Arms”…….I climb back into to “Daddy’s Arms and start all over again. It’s the only way my broken heart can mend. I knew He could see through me, and yet he saw me through; I’m going to live for Him in everything I do.”
