Both the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the outpouring of holy spirit on Pentecost were spiritually pivotal moments in world history. To this very day, we are still enjoying the life-giving benefits of what our heavenly Father had prepared for us in Christ at that time.
I Corinthians 2:9 [English Standard Version]:
But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.
None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
In anticipation of Pentecost (which will be on the first Sunday of June this year) I wanted to share with you a poem I wrote about the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Look now at the perspective of a few individuals who were intimately involved in discovering that the resurrection of Jesus Christ had just become a living reality.
“They have taken the Lord out of his grave,
What has become of the dead?
All I find is an empty cave.”
These are the words that Mary said.
“Woman, why weep? Whom do you seek?”
Supposing the gardener, she replied,
“If you have moved him, tell me, please,
I will take him away now that he’s died.”
Jesus looked toward her and called her, “Mary.”
In a moment she knew who called her name.
She turned with joy, a heart now merry,
Calling him, “Master,” once again.
He is risen, he is risen,
Marked out as the son of God.
He is risen, he is risen,
Oh, the triumph of the Lord!
The angel said, “Don’t ever fear,
You seek Jesus who had been slain;
He is gone from hence, he is not here,
Behold the place where he has lain!”
He is risen, he is risen,
Marked out as the son of God.
He is risen, he is risen,
Oh, the triumph of the Lord!
Two angels stood by in brilliant clothes;
“Why seek the living among the dead?
He is not here, your Lord arose,
For God has raised him, as He said!”
He is risen, he is risen,
Marked out as the son of God.
He is risen, he is risen,
Oh, the triumph of the Lord!
“Go quickly, tell his disciples true,
That he is risen from the dead.
Go tell the mourners, many or few,
That he is risen as he said.”
They ran to spread the message wide,
Great joyous wonder filled their soul,
To where disciples did abide,
Announcing God’s victory, His triumph—now told!
He is risen, he is risen,
Marked out as the son of God.
He is risen, he is risen,
Oh, the triumph of the Lord!
